Here’s The Plan for Pokemon Day 2019

Celebrations Abound

Pokemon Day 2019 is quickly approaching on February 27th 2019, and Pokemon Company International has revealed it’s plans to help fans celebrate!

Pokemon Day of course, happens every year to celebrate the day the franchise was officially launched in Japan back in 1996. No one would have guessed that on that day they were launching what would become one of the most popular franchises in the world. J.C Smith, senior director of consumer marketing at The Pokemon Company International has said “Pokémon Day is about celebrating the incredible fans that have made Pokémon one of the most beloved entertainment franchises in the world,as a thank-you to the community, we’re excited to provide them with more ways to experience all things Pokémon.”

So, what all is happening on Pokemon Day 2019? Let’s break it down:

Pokemon Trading Card Events

Certain Retailers in the US and Canada will be hosting Trade & Play events in store in celebration of the latest TCG Expansion “Sun and Moon Team Up”. Fans will receive an oversized booster back with goodies inside(while supplies last) and get to play, trade and meet up with other players. Location details:

  • GameStop: Over 2,500 stores in the US will host events on February 23 and February 24. In addition, GameStop will release an exclusive Lapras plush by Wicked Cool Toys during the events.
  • Best Buy: Over 100 stores in the US will host events on February 23.
  • EB Games: Over 100 stores in Canada will host events on February 23.

If you don’t feel like braving the crowds, Twitch will be broadcasting a selection of Pokemon episodes and movies – this kicks off on Feburary 27th on the Twitch Presents channel and actually runs all the way until May 5th! The Pokemon TV app available online as well as on iOS and Android will also be playing episodes featuring Gengar and Mimikyu, as they’re paired up for the “Team Up” Expansion!

If your more interested in merch and collectibles, a special line called “Poke Ball Classics” will release online on PokemonCenter on the 27th. The Funko Bulbasaur Pop! Will also be available on the Funko website that day, and Build-A-Bear Workshop will offer an online discount of up to 30 percent off all Pokémon bundles at buildabear.com and buildabear.co.uk from February 25 through February 27.

And not to fan the flames, but a rumour of a Pokemon-specific direct floating around, but hey, its just a rumour for now.
