Far Cry New Dawn Debuts at the Number One Spot on the UK Sales Chart
This past week marked the biggest week of 2019 so far, with four huge games releasing. As it turns out, Ubisoft’s Far Cry New Dawn was able to beat out the competition to secure the top spot on the UK Sales Chart.
For the seventh and busiest week of the year thus far, Far Cry New Dawn was able to debut at the top spot, despite some tough competition from other newcomers as well: Crackdown 3, Metro Exodus, and Jump Force. What’s interesting about this though is that according to GamesIndustry.biz, the sales for Far Cry New Dawn are down by a whopping 86% compared to last year’s release of Far Cry 5. Additionally, it’s only sold a quarter of the volume as Far Cry Primal did in its debut week.
Just narrowly missing out on the top spot on the chart, Metro Exodus takes the second spot. It’s also worth noting that it had a better debut week in the UK than Metro: Last Light, which came out in 2013. So what about Jump Force and Crackdown 3? Well Jump Force took the number 4 spot behind Red Dead Redemption 2, while Crackdown 3 didn’t break into the top 10, debuting at number 13. There is a very logical explanation for this soft launch however and it’s name is the Xbox Game Pass. It’s very likely that many opted to play the game here, instead of buying it outright.
