Anthem Launches on February 22nd
Anthem is reportedly expected to have sold 5 to 6 million units by the end of this March, according to an EA conference call made on Tuesday. BioWare’s latest game is launching in a crowded February alongside potential competitors in Crackdown 3 & Metro Exodus.
“EA says that they expect Anthem to sell around 5 to 6 million units before the end of the fiscal year (which ends March 31st 2019),” gaming analyst Daniel Ahmad tweeted on Tuesday. “The game launches this month.”
“We model Anthem units in the 5 to 6 million range,” part of EA CFO Blake Jorgensen’s prepared remarks for the Tuesday conference call read. “We’re comfortable with that based on what we’re seeing in the outcome of both demos,” Jorgensen reportedly said during the call itself. “A lot of excitement, a lot of interest.”
Considering that Anthem is a new IP that’s launching in late February while competing against several other AAA games, this seems like quite the tall order for it to fill.
If you’d like to learn more about Anthem then you should read the in-depth, hands-on preview that we published last month. Its author noted that while he “only played a vertical slice” of the game, he described what he played as “extremely competent.”
“The combat and flight mechanics are excellent, it’s stunning, and there seems to be a whole lot going on in the world,” the preview’s author wrote. “If Anthem can deliver a compelling narrative and keep the content train rolling, it stands a good chance of fulfilling it’s destiny in the pantheon of loot shooters.”
