Thwip, Thwip, etc.
Sony has finally released a trailer for this year’s Spider-Man sequel, showing off the webhead’s new suit and Jake Gyllenhaal as everyone’s favorite Mysterio.
Wait, what?! Peter Parker, the man-spider hybrid, is ALIVE?!?!? But what about the climactic events of the 2018 box-office annihilator The Avengers: Infinity War? Spoiler alert for those who checked out of society last year, but at the end of that movie, Spider-Man DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIES!?!?!?!?!? Even though this movie was already ANNOUNCED?!?!? How could we have ever seen this coming? Well, I guess nobody needs to watch The Avengers: Endgame now, seeing as this trailer proves that our heroes defeat Thanos and save at least one of their friends from the other side of death. And if death isn’t an actual consequence to be feared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, how is anything supposed to have any stakes at all?! Especially for a character whose life is constantly marred by the loss of life around him, as seen in the recent and universally loved Spider-Man film, Into the Spider-Verse (which I personally cannot recommend enough).
The trailer previews a bunch of fun moments like Peter trying to have a conversation with MJ that gets awkward, Happy trying to have a conversation with Aunt May that gets awkward, and is that ANOTHER dead character? Come on guys, at least try to leave some surprises for the movie.
In other recent Spider-Man news, it looks like some Fantastic Four content may be making its way to the PS4 game, which Wendy’s, yes, Wendy’s the restaurant, chose as its Game of the Year. I’m sure there’s nothing disingenuous or marketing related about it.
Spider-Man: Far From Home swings (get it? like Spider-Man swings from his web? Nobody has made that joke yet) into theaters this July 5th.
