Both Console Versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 Are Now the Same
When Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in October, the PS4 version had a few extra timed-exclusive items that weren’t available if you had picked up the Xbox One version. This practice has occurred time and time again in other games this generation, including Destiny and Call of Duty, as a means to entice consumers to pick up one version over the other. Whether the deal worked out in Sony’s favour is anyone’s guess but it seems that the exclusive period has now expired.
As part of Red Dead Online’s latest update — which added new content and features “across the board” –, Rockstar also made a small mention towards the end of its patch notes relating to Xbox One owners.
“Xbox One players can also now access the Red Chestnut Arabian Horse, Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle and the High Roller Double-Action Revolver in the Red Dead Online Beta,” it reads.
As you can see, these items are only useable in Red Dead Online and not in the single-player mode. It’s hard to say if these actually encouraged people to purchase the game on PS4 over the Xbox One version. I picked up Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox One because it has better 4K support on an Xbox One X over a PS4 and PS4 Pro. That mattered to me more than a few measly items, but I digress.
Either way, it’s good to see that no matter where you’re playing RDR2, the experience is now the same across both consoles.
