No Word if the Cyberpolice were involved.
Having one of the biggest franchises of the year seems to put a target on Epic Gameโs back. Weโve already covered the dance lawsuits but now the company has had to respond to claims of illicit V-Bucks laundering by cyber-criminals.
A report was recently published in by the U.K outlet The Independent, claiming that these criminals are laundering stolen funds by buying Fortniteโs in-game currency known as V-bucks. A spokesperson for Epic Games says that โthey take these issues very seriouslyโ and โwe encourage players to protect their accountsโ.
The Independent reported that these digital thieves are using stolen credit card information to purchase the V-bucks and then selling them on the dark web to players at lower prices in order to โcleanโ the funds by running them through an official transaction process โ it doesnโt sound like there are any hard figures for any of this however.
V-Bucks bring in a lot of money for Epic, having made more than $3 billion dollars in 2018. Hopefully those who are using the in-game buying system are caught and swiftly handed over to a court of law.
