Anthem‘s VIP demo had a pretty rocky start. People were plagued with issues for quite some time, enough to put the lie to that ‘VIP’ status altogether. BioWare acknowledged that things weren’t going so hot, though they’re adamant about one thing: according to them, server capacity was not to blame.
Chad Robertson, BioWare’s head of live service, opened up about these problems on BioWare’s blog. “Yesterday was rocky. The first day of our VIP demo weekend did not go exactly as we planned, and I want to share what happened.” He goes on to talk about the various issues that pop up only after real-world testing occurs. Although again, the team is insistent that this had nothing to do with server capacity.
“Overall, we had excess capacity prepared for population increases, and continue to do so,” Robertson added. Whatever the problem may have been, the team at least acknowledged that things went wrong, and they’re working to make up for that. One such compensation is coming in the form of an additional Javelin skin. Anyone who participated in the demo (however successfully) will be receiving one of these skins when the game launches. Hopefully this weekend was enough to ensure that similar issues don’t occur at the game’s proper launch.
