It’s A Smorgasbord of Songs!
Maybe you don’t find music as important as all that sneakin’ and stabbin’ in Assassin’s Creed games, but it still plays a major role. Gotta build up that atmosphere, after all. On that note, Sarah Schachner, the composer for Assassin’s Creed Origins, put a bunch of unreleased songs on SoundCloud this week.
Now to be clear, a lot of these tracks were in the game (in some form), they just weren’t available on the official soundtrack. In a way, this is some of the music I’m the most interested in. The B-Sides, the extra tracks, the cool weird bits. Some of the tracks are even alternate versions of famous songs among the soundtrack, which is a lovely bonus.
The playlist isn’t enormous, but for anyone thirsty for extra content from Origins, this is a terrific Christmas gift. You can check out the unreleased songs on Schachner’s SoundCloud page here. Personally, this game’s music gets a high ranking, at least among Assassin’s Creed games. “Great Sand Sea – Desert Exploration” stands out as prettier and more powerful than it has any right to be. There’s more to game music than pounding drums and aggressive string sections, after all.
