Pauline And Two People Who Aren’t Pauline
Mario Tennis Aces continues the tradition of Mario sports games that are better than they have any right to be. The roster is pretty good, but early next year it’s getting even better. Pauline, Luma, and Boom Boom, whose name I legitimately forgot until I read it just now. Sorry Boom, that was rude.
The three new players are coming to the Nintendo Switch title in the first quarter of 2019. This is just the latest wave of new content for the game. Previous updates brought us Birdo, Diddy Kong and the Paratroopa. There have also been balance fixes and whatnot, but those are just essential for any game with online multiplayer.
Seriously, I feel awful. I used to draw Boom Boom in the margins of my school notebooks all the time. The little guy was an awesome skill test and a great form of personal validation for a kid who was straight up obsessed with Nintendo games back in the day. To atone for my forgetfulness, I shall stomp to death a whole legion of the bald, skittering baddies in Super Mario Bros. 3 this weekend. A strange yet fitting tribute.
