Skyward Sword Switch Rumors Are Abound

First Heard At A Zelda Concert In Osaka

It seems like Eiji Aonuma himself is stoking the rumor fires this time. People on Twitter are saying he teased a Skyward Sword Switch release sometime in the future. A lovely idea, but isn’t it sort of impossible?

Skyward Sword Switch

The first Twitter post offers no details, though a more thorough search on Japanese Twitter might yield better results. People are still skeptical, though Gamexplain already has a video up with more details and analysis. Everyone is always pretty excited to see another Zelda game get the HD treatment, but in this case that might be wishful thinking.

The problem is, Skyward Sword is completely built around the Wiimote. It’s possible that they can graft those controls to the Joy-Cons, but if they want to make the game playable in portable mode, they’ll have to do some serious coding. You’d need a whole second team dedicated to the new control scheme. Also, the game’s not great, which tempers my excitement for this news somewhat. Motion controls and I have a difficult relationship, with Skyward Sword being an especially egregious offender. Actually, if they do a non-motion controlled version of the game, I might be convinced to play it ever again.
