Nintendo President Says It’s Unrealistic to Expect the Switch to Get All Third Party Games

Nintendo President Addresses Third Party Game Concerns About the Switch

Since the Switch released early last year support for the new system as continued to increase, with many publishers actively working to bring third party games to it. Though the library of games for the Nintendo Switch has continued to grow, many still feel like there are some huge third party titles missing. In a recent Q&A session with investors Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed this concern.

During the latest Q&A session Shuntaro Furukawa was posed with this question: “A lot of people seem to feel like there are major titles from other publishers that are missing on the Nintendo Switch. Are you currently doing anything to address that? Also, do you think the situation will change in the next fiscal year or later?” In response the Nintendo President stated that they are actively trying to increase the variety of games on the system, though it is unrealistic to expect every major third party game to make its way onto the platform.

Here’s what he had to say about the concerns in full, We believe that giving consumers a wide selection of software is an extremely important part of operating our platforms. That is why we welcome the introduction of a variety of titles from many different software publishers. Even so, I do not think it is realistic to expect that every major title will become available on Nintendo Switch. We are speaking with publishers about them actively putting titles on Nintendo Switch that would be an especially good fit for its unique features as a home console system you can carry around, including handheld mode and the ability to bring systems together for local multiplayer. Given the strong publisher support Nintendo Switch has, I would expect the number of titles on it will increase a lot more. That is what really keeps the Nintendo Switch business on the right track.”

Considering some games just simply don’t work on the Switch, this is an entirely reasonable response. Do you agree with Shuntaro Furukawa? Is there a major third party game you’re still hoping to see make its way to the Nintendo Switch? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to keep it locked for updates.
