They Aim to be “As Refined As Red Dead Redemption 2” At Launch
Rockstar and CD Projekt RED both have a history of stellar releases on their own schedules. It makes sense that the team at CD Projekt Red would show love for the Rockstar crew, and they said as much during a recent meeting with their financial team. What better quality benchmark could there be than the studio behind Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead 2?
According to the developers of Cyberpunk 2077, they want their upcoming game to be “as refined as Red Dead Redemption 2” when it eventually launches. They added that time was set out to patch away bugs before the release date, though there’s no word on whether this is the usual amount of QA work or something above and beyond the average.
Further comments saw CD Projekt RED shooting for a Metacritic score of 95 or better when the game comes out. This is both encouraging and disheartening. I’m psyched that they have such lofty goals, but do they have to be tethered directly to a Metacritic score? Games are about more than numbers, after all. Although from the perspective of their financiers, sales numbers and review scores are likely the only metrics to matter whatsoever. Either way, the Witcher 3 devs could do worse than look to the Rockstar model for inspiration.
