‘Command & Conquer’ and ‘Red Alert’ to Receive Remasters by Original Devs

Return to Conquer

In case anyone questioned where the age of RTS had gone, it was on hiatus. The original masterminds of Command & Conquer have since been rallied, and they’re back with Petroglyph for the return of the series. Announced through a brief reunion clip, the original Command and Conquer, as well as Command & Conquer: Red Alert, shall be remastered

Petroglyph Games are back in charge of the series, starting with what could be a stellar return to form. EA thought it a good idea to take the classics and place them in the arms of the creators. In the clip to announce each remaster, we see Mile Legg, President of Petroglyph; Jim Vesella, producer, Electronic Arts; and Ted Morris, senior producer, Petroglyph. The three of them brought in soundtrack mastermind Frank Klepacki’s, announcing his return to the series.

The announcement of a remaster was inspired by the upcoming 25th anniversary. EA Producer Jim Vessella took to Reddit to announce the project, and to declare intent.

“Today, I’m thrilled to tell you we are going back to the beginning,” he said in the post. “We have decided to remaster Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn. And while this is incredibly exciting on its own, we’re also aware of how passionate the community is about the Red Alert universe. So, we will also remaster the original Command & Conquer: Red Alertâ„¢. But what about the classic expansion packs you may ask – Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath? Well, C&C and Red Alert wouldn’t be the same without them, so all three expansion packs will be bundled with the base games into one remastered collection – without microtransactions.”

To take the visuals a step further, EA will bring in the skillset of developer Lemon Sky Studios. They will work alongside Petroglyph by upscaling the games’ graphics to 4K. That way, we’ll have a truly modern take on the beloved classics. Since development hasn’t yet begun, we may have to wait a while before there are additional updates. For now, fans can take solace in the fact that the original minds are back. Stay tuned.
