Destiny 2 Is the Top Grossing Digital Title for September, Beating out Marvel’s Spider-Man

Destiny 2 Takes the Title for the Top Grossing Digital Game on Consoles for September

The numbers from SuperData Research have just been unveiled and it seems there is an interesting winner for the month of September as the top grossing game of the month. No, it’s not the game you might be expecting, as Marvel’s Spider-Man, but rather, it’s Destiny 2!

Destiny 2 Forsaken

The numbers are based on digital sales for consoles only, but it’s still an icurious turn out nonetheless. Of course, it probably has something to do with the launch of Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion. Well, that and the fact that Destiny 2 is available for both the PS4 and the Xbox One where Marvel’s Spider-Man is only available for the PS4. SuperData also noted that 60% of active Destiny 2 users purchased the Forsaken expansion. Whatever the reason, a congratulations is in order for Bungie and Activision for breathing new life into the sequel. And that’s not to say Spider-Man didn’t have anything short of an impressive launch, with Insomniac’s latest becoming the best digital launch for a first-party Sony game, selling 2.17 million units during September and beating out God of War who captured this record in April.

While Destiny 2 and Spider-Man took the top spots on console, FIFA 19 took third place, with Fortnite and NBA 2K19 not far behind, taking the fourth and fifth places respectively. In addition to FIFA 19 and NBA 2K19 both making it into the top 5, SuperData also stated that both games had their best digital launch sales in franchise history!

In the latest SuperData report the company revealed that consumers spent a whopping 1.24 billion dollars on digital console games in September alone. And if that doesn’t seem too surprising, this is a significant increase over last year’s sales of $912 million. You can see which games took the top ten spots for console, PC, and mobile during September below.
