CD Projekt RED Shoots down the Idea of a Nintendo Switch Release of Thronebreaker

CD Projekt RED Confirms Thronebreaker Will Not Get a Nintendo Switch Release

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales  is set to release tomorrow for the PC, with a console release to follow. So what about a Nintendo Switch port for those hoping to get their trading card fix? As is turns out, it may not be the answer you were hoping for.

Though the game will be available starting tomorrow, on PC through GOG.com, alongside the full 1.0 release of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, it won’t be making it’s way to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One until December 4th. And it’s bad news for Nintendo Switch owners who were hoping to join the Thronebreaker ranks as Nintendo has confirmed they aren’t planning on bringing it to the popular console at all. They confirmed this with Eurogamer stating, “There are no plans to release Thronebreaker on any other platforms than PC (GOG.COM), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”

Unfortunately this means that while there are still three different platforms to play the game on, trading card game fans won’t be able to get their fix on the go. Additionally since Hearthstone and now Thronebreaker will not make an appearance on the Nintendo Switch, the only card games available on the platform at this time are UNO and Spider Solitaire.

If you haven’t heard too much about it here’s a description of the game straight from the official website. “The world stands on the verge of chaos, as the tensions between the power-hungry Nilfgaardian Empire and proud Northern Realms grow. Facing an imminent invasion, Meve — war-veteran Queen of Lyria and Rivia — is forced to once again enter the warpath, and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.” It also states, “The battles in Thronebreaker utilize gameplay mechanics from GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, custom tailored for storytelling purposes. It’ll be your role as commander to wisely use the unique skills and abilities of your army to lead it to victory.”
