Fortnite’s Rocket-Riding Was Originally Considered a Bug

Fortnite’s Rocket-Riding Was a Mistake

When Epic Games released Fortnite’s rocket launcher, it wasn’t intended to be a method of transportation. But players soon found that they could use these long-range weapons to traverse the map, and the development team quickly noticed.

In a recent Apple interview, the company asked Epic Games whether there are features that players discovered that were initially unknown to the developer.

“So many,” said Epic Games’ creative director, Donald Mustard. “We had the rocket launcher, and players figured out they could jump on top and ride rockets across the map.”

The team initially discussed how to “fix the bug,” but soon agreed to keep it. “It’s not a bug. It’s now a feature,” Mustard said.

And this chance “bug” has become quite a big part of the game, with players pulling off tons of crazy mid-air stunts over the past year. Notably, one player sniped another player while riding on top of a flying pumpkin rocket.

Fornite is now in the last week of its fifth season, which runs until September 25. It’s the last chance for players to complete the season’s challenges and unlock Battle Pass rewards. After its conclusion, Season 6 will usher in new challenges.
