BioWare Makes Fun of Spider-Man Puddlegate Controversy

BioWare Is Having a Good Laugh at Puddlegate 2018

Although BioWare used most of their time a PAX West to show fans the story of their upcoming online game, Anthem, they also took a jab at the Puddlegate controversy surrounding Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man.

Anthem 1

A recent Reddit thread posted by a fan accused Insomniac Games of downgrading Spider-Man’s graphics. As evidence, the user posted two screenshots of the game’s puddles, suggesting that the puddles in the E3 2017 game trailer were much sharper, larger, and more defined than in the release version of the same scene.

James Stevenson, Insomniac’s Community Mananger, clarified that no degradation took place.

“The puddles being moved had nothing to do with performance,” he said. “Pretty sure it was a design/art usability reason thing. Definitely wasn’t performance, as we have spots with tons of puddles in the game with no performance issue.”

But BioWare’s Mike Gamble couldn’t help himself. While showing off a new Anthem trailer, Gamble laughed to himself during a scene where there was a puddle on the ground

“Yes, that’s a puddle,” he said. “You’ll see the puddle, right there. So before we move on, there’s a 98% chance that that puddle will be changed, moved, reduced …”

Anthem is set to launch on February 22, 2019.
