Capcom: Remaking the First Resident Evil Remake Isn’t Out of the Question

Could the REmake Get a Remake?

According to recent comments made at Gamescom, Capcom doesn’t consider the possibility of remaking the first Resident Evil remake as unlikely or “laughable”.

“Certainly enough time has passed that it wouldn’t be laughable to remake the [first RE remake]. I personally think that would be an interesting thing to do,” said Kazunori Kadoi, the director of the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake, to GameInformer.

However, fans shouldn’t expect Capcom to start remaking games left and right, Kadoi also said.

“We want to get [the Resident Evil 2 remake] out the door, and see how it goes first,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of fans who ask for their favorite games, but we’re not going to commit to anything right now.”

“We’d like to keep our possibilities open for the future and see what makes the most sense when we come to it. We don’t want to feed just nostalgia,” he continued. “We want to bring [out] how people felt about the original games and if we can, reimagine it in a way so that it bridges the generation gap between people who played it 20 years ago and newcomers.”

Kadoi also told GameInformer that the RE2 remake won’t have any story DLC or any new enemies (such as the crimson heads that were added to the first Resident Evil remake).
