Metal Gear Movie Director Has a Pitch for a Metroid Movie

Jordan Vogt-Roberts Talks About His Ideal Metroid Movie

Movie director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, is something of a video game fan. In Kong: Skull Island, the iconic mountain from Journey can be seen in the background of various city shots; his work on the FX dramedy You’re the Worst had a brief Borderlands cameo; and, just recently, he finished the Metal Gear Solid movie script which he intends to direct as well. But until that happens, Vogt-Roberts is already thinking about other video game franchises that he would like to adapt into a movie.

Metroid Prime 4 Rumors

Speaking to IGN in a new interview, Vogt-Roberts revealed that he would like to get the chance to make a Metroid movie. In fact, he already has some ideas up his sleeve for what the movie could be.

“I have a pitch for a Metroid movie,” Vogt-Roberts said. “They’ll never let me. It’s too crazy. It legitimately would be  [Samus] alone. It would be a little bit of her talking to herself. As soon as they introduce other talking characters in those games, to me it loses everything. You put her alone and it’s almost got more to do with the silence of a movie like Drive. Like the quietness. and having it be like a real, intense mood piece, but mixed with sci-fi.”

Vogt-Roberts also talked about how Super Metroid influenced him when he was younger. He also spoke about video game movies in general and how some movies are “video game movies” that aren’t actually based on video games.

It’s a pretty interesting interview and one that offers a little more insight into the difference between the movie and video game mediums from a director that grew up playing games.
