Guerrilla Games’ Expansion Will Nearly Double the Number of Employees
Horizon Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games has announced that it will be moving into a new building at the beginning of next year, while also nearly doubling the number of staff.
Thanks to a report by Het Parool, Guerrilla Games will soon be taking over five floors of the former De Telegraaf newspaper building in Amsterdam as their new headquarters in early 2019. The extra space will allow the studio to expand their numbers from 250 employees to 400.
According to Guerrilla CEO Hermen Hulst, the studio expansion is something the company has been hoping to accomplish for several years now. By increasing their headcount, Guerrilla is hoping to speed up the game development process for their upcoming games by at least half. Horizon Zero Dawn, which is Guerrilla’s biggest game to date, took approximately six and a half years to make. “We want to release games in two or three years, both new titles and games based on existing titles,” Hulst said.
Hulst goes on to say that the studio has already hired nine new people and that the additional room will allow for “sound and motion tracking studios.”
Hulst is also hoping to turn the new headquarters into a sort of “palace,” adorned with life-sized statues of characters from their games. The top floor will be constructed as a communal space and a “beautiful view” of Amsterdam.
This is, overall, great news for Guerrilla and is encouraging considering Sony had closed down Guerrilla Cambridge — the makers of PS VR title Rigs Mechanized Combat and PS Vita’s Killzone: Mercenary — early last year.
