The Secret Life of Wizard Pets
The popular mobile RPG, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, has been updated on iOS and Android to feature pets for players to own.
Starting today, players can select from four cuddly (and some not so cuddly) pets: owl, rat, cat, and toad. Harry Potter fans will recognize these familiar animal types from their connection to specific Harry Potter characters.
Owls are common in the wizarding world and are used primarily for delivering mail between witches and wizards. Ron Weasley owned a pet rat named Scabbers who turned out to an Animagus (a magical person that can transform into a specific animal). Hermione Granger had a cat named Crookshanks, much to Ron and Harry’s dislike. And the lovable and awesome Neville Longbottom frequently lost his pet toad, Trevor, in the series.
Thankfully, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery won’t limit you to just one pet. It’s possible to own one of each species but you can only equip one at a time for an added energy boost (after they’ve had their sleep, of course). The remaining pets will lounge around and nap in your house dormitory. Once equipped, however, they’ll join you throughout your Hogwarts journey and follow you as you tap around its many locations.
While this is a nice added bonus for players of the game, it still doesn’t make up for the repetitive nature of the game. Lately, the developers Jam City have been incentivizing players to collect Crest Points to unlock various clothes for their avatar by completing school classes.
