Putting God of War Above World of Warcraft on the Top 10 Watched Games of the Month
After a very successful launch, God of War took a spot in the top 10 most-watched game on Twitch over April, with people putting in a combined total of 19.9 million hours watching the newest instalment to the franchise.
The statistics were released from the site Newzoo, which ranks Twitch games throughout the month based on the hours watched; differentiating esports matches from casual playing. Sorting to “Total Hours” will hide the esports leagues, and reveals God of War ranked at 8 in the top 10 of April.
This puts it above World of Warcraft in terms of combined hours watched, and seems to have completely kicked Sea of Thieves from the charts, which took the rank 8 spot for March at 11.1 million viewers, and now isn’t on the top 10 chart for April.
God of War is a PlayStation 4 exclusive, so its possible that plenty of players who don’t have access to the console took to Twitch to watch the game play out. Though it’s painfully close to the 20 million mark, God of War is only 2.8 million from Counter Strike’s total hours, and a whopping 7 million above World of Warcraft.
The result isn’t surprising to anyone, as God of War had been hyped up for months before its release, and managed to match the hype with stellar review scores all across the board, even from us. You cna read our review here, and check out our video coverage here!
