Sea of Thieves Gets Its First Hackers

Is Being a Hacker the Pirate Way?

Being a Sea of Thieves pirate can mean stealing from other players and making things more difficult for them. The nature of the game makes the line between a pirate and an asshole pretty thin. And now some players are taking things to the next level are using hacks to conquer other players.

Players are using numerous cheats to gain loot and win battles, from standard aimbots that ensure the accuracy of each pistol shot to ESP hacks that reveal that locations of every player, ship, and treasure chest. The hacks also reveal the health of enemies, distance of treasure, and angles for cannon firing.

“Whether you want to cheat is a personal decision,” said one cheating website. “On one hand, many people think it is immoral to cheat in online games as you have an unfair advantage over other players. And while that may be the case, at the end of the day it’s just a game and you can choose what you want to do. Using cheats is a good way to excel in the game world. Earn more gold, rank up faster, and win nearly any battle you get yourself into. You may also have a lot more fun when using a Sea of Thieves hack.”

Of course, Rare, the Sea of Thieves developer, has a bit of a different take.

“Maintaining a fair gameplay experience for all players is a top priority for us,” said a representative for Rare’s studio head Craig Duncan. “We are investigating these claims.”

Despite the roadblocks of launch and the rise of hackers, Sea of Thieves is Microsoft’s fastest selling Xbox One IP of this generation.

“As the sun sets on week one, the team at Rare wanted to say thank you to all the players who have joined us adventuring in Sea of Thieves,” Duncan said.

“Since launching on March 20th, we have seen an incredible number of people from around the globe playing and enjoying the game, which has led to some humbling early momentum. We have watched amazing stories unfold with a number of players working towards becoming our first Pirate Legends.

“The worldwide excitement for Sea of Thieves has made it the fastest-selling first-party new IP of this generation. Having witnessed more than a million players on launch day, our community continues to grow and now has more than two million players. Alongside this, Sea of Thieves is already the best-selling Microsoft Studios first-party title on Windows 10.”
