The Translation Is Not Available in the Game
A new secret has been discovered in God of War, one that might have slipped through players’ radars altogether. As a matter of fact, there is no way anyone could have learned of this item if not for the Stone Mason Edition copy.
Thanks to a thorough investigation from the online community, God of War‘s secret item has been found. Like I said, the game itself provided no clues that this item even existed. However, among the items in the game’s Stone Mason’s Edition was a map. Not just your typical decoration, however; the piece of parchment was inscribed with runes that, when translated, delivered clues to a secret weapon. It was translated by Brazilian YouTuber ‘BRKsEDU,’ after which Reddit scrambled to decipher its meaning. You can find the translation below:
“The brilliant blacksmiths Brok and Sindri traveled all around the lands of Midgard to create this great map for the giantess Faye. A mysterious treasure was found at the space between them at the conclusion of their journey. Unfortunately for the brothers, the treasure’s location was instantly forgotten. Brok retraced his steps and blamed Sindri for losing the treasure. Sindri retraced his own steps but clearly knew it was Brok’s fault they could not find it. The treasure was never found and neither brother has spoken to the other since”
You might consider the solution semi-spoilery if you’re at the very beginning of the game, but here’s how you uncover the item. It can be found in a tower in Midgard, the one with a golden circle on top. Once there, stand in the circle and steer the camera in a particular sequence in order to unlock the treasure – A legendary axe pommel called “Forbidden Grip of the Ages.”
Just about all other treasures in God of War can be found via in-game maps. The fact that Cory Barlog and crew left one specifically for the Stone Mason’s Edition map is such a meta thing to do. We’ve seen video game secrets stay hidden for years – Luckily, the passion of some gamers led to a quick unraveling of this one, and it’s now online for others to discover. Speaking of Barlog, he took to Twitter to personally congratulate the community for solving the puzzle.
