Uppercut Games’ City of Brass Finally Gets Release Date
While it’s been a long time coming, the Bioshock veterans over at Uppercut Games have finally announced a May 4th, 2018 release date for their Arabian Nights-inspired rogue-lite City of Brass. The first-person title will launch for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Originally scheduled for a Fall 2017 release, City of Brass players will control a cunning thief in a constantly changing, labyrinthine environment reminiscent of the 1993 Commodore classic. Armed with a unique combination of bullwhip and blade, players are tasked with exploring sand-dusted mythological ruins and slaying armies of damned souls in order to break a curse and discover the treasures and riches deep within.
“City of Brass is a fast-paced hack-and-slash adventure leaping from the pages of Arabian Nights,” said Ed Orman, co-founder and designer at Uppercut Games, “We hope players will enjoy plundering the city for its treasures when the game launches this May.”
Players will have a unique set of tools to do exactly that in City of Brass. While the blade is straightforward enough, the bullwhip gives players many more options. With it, not only can enemies be disarmed, tripped, or stunned, but the player can also interact with the environment in novel ways, like grabbing out-of-reach objects, activating switches, or swinging to escaping hordes of flaming skeletons. Combined with a robust upgrade system and an interactive environment to take advantage of, players will have no shortage of choices in combat and navigation.
A set of optional modifiers under the title’s Blessings & Burdens system ensures the challenge City of Brass presents is tailored to every player. Everything from player health and damage output to items costs can be tweaked with the system, allowing anyone to enjoy the experience exactly how they’d like. This extends to Microsoft’s own streaming service Mixer, where viewers can interact with players by griefing them with more enemy spawns or acting benevolently with extra gold or healing items.
Currently in Steam Early Access, City of Brass is shaping up to be a solid hack-and-slash rogue-lite title with some standout gameplay and community elements when it launches this May.
