SEGA Announces Sonic Mania Plus During Their SXSW Panel
Earlier today, during SEGA’s Gotta Go Fast: The Official Sonic the Hedgehog Panel at SXSW, the company revealed the definitive edition of Sonic Mania, called Sonic Mania Plus. Set to bring so much more content to the loveable game, SEGA announced the new edition will launch in just a few short months!
SEGA announced that Sonic Mania Plus will be released in Summer 2018 for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, and while a specific launch date was not confirmed, the game will cost $29.99. The game will have brand new and exciting additions, including two brand new playable characters: Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. Of course what makes the return of these characters so special is the fact that they have been absent from the series for quite some time. And that’s not all. There will also be a brand new game mode, called encore, which will include slight changes and new content for each zone. And if you wanted to make Sonic Mania Plus your fun new party game, you may just be able to do so as the game’s Competitive mode will support four players!
Sonic Mania Plus pre-orders are said to open next Monday. And if you’re trying to decide whether to pick up the digital or physical version of the game, those who buy it in store will receive a few extra things. In addition to the game itself the physical version will feature a holographical slipcover, a 32-page art book and a reversible sleeve styled for both SEGA Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges. If you already have last year’s version of the game, the new content will be available as DLC content.
A new graphic shows some art of Ray the Flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo, along with all of these items that come with the physical edition. You can check these out below.
