All About Environmental Storytelling
Overkill’s The Walking Dead looks to be in good hands and it shows in the dev team’s latest developer diary that explores Georgetown, a neighbourhood that players will be able to explore in the upcoming co-op shooter.
Overkill, the same team behind the Payday series, will be releasing regular developer diaries in the future leading up to the game’s Fall 2018 release. The first diary is called “The World of the Walking Dead” and it focuses on how important environmental storytelling is to their vision of The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead universe is ripe with storytelling opportunities, and seeing Overkill’s attention to detail within the environments is encouraging.
“One of the most important parts of being an environment artist is to always ask the question ‘Why?’, because then you can give everything a meaning,” said Jacob Claussen, an environment artist on the project. “And if you give everything a meaning, you can get a sense of a lived-in world.”
If you’re a fan of Robert Kirkman’s popular graphic novel or the hit show on AMC, the video is worth checking out. The artists over at Overkill seem to be fans themselves, so this might a Walking Dead game worth holding out for. Developer Diary Episode 2 will focus on the creation of the walkers.
The last time we heard anything about the game was in December when a character trailer, featuring a survivor named Aiden, was revealed on the official website.
Overkill’s The Walking Dead will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC this Fall.
