The Team Behind the Anticipated Sequel Is Going Through Some Changes
Naughty Dog announced new changes on their official website for both the company and the developer team behind their upcoming game, The Last of Us Part II, on Friday.
Neil Druckmann, one of the developers behind Naughty Dog games such as Uncharted 4, has been promoted to Vice President of Naughty Dog, the news post announced. However, he’ll still be the Creative Director of The Last of Us Part II.
Other changes for the developer team: Anthony Newman and Kurt Margenau are now both joint Game Directors for The Last of Us Part II while Emilia Schatz and Richard Cambier have been named the Lead Designers.
“We have such an incredible team at Naughty Dog, and I’m always happy when I am able to recognize those who have made an outstanding contribution to our games and the studio,” stated Studio President Evan Wells in the news post.
The Last of Part II doesn’t have a release date yet but many have speculated that the game may be coming out later this year or in early 2019. Even though the game hasn’t come out yet, it has already stirred some controversy regarding its violent content. Critics decried a teaser trailer for the game that came out late last year for being too violent while others defended the trailer’s content as appropriate considering the context of the game’s story.
COGconnected had an opinion piece posted a few days after the trailer’s release that addressed the controversy. “The world of The Last of Us is a supremely f@$#ed up place, filled equally with ravenous humanoid monsters and merciless human bandits that might be worse,” wrote the article’s author, Jason Fanelli. “The first game had similar moments to this that left me with a pit in my stomach, but that’s what made the game so damn good.”
