Cyberpunk 2077 Is Being Developed for This Generation and the Next
Every day is a good day for Cyberpunk 2077 news, as many fans will attest. While information about the new title has been extremely scarce, there’s no denying the amount of hype that builds around every bit. Our latest piece of info comes straight out of the Pareto Securities’ Gaming Seminar, where CD Projekt RED was in attendance to discuss Gwent, Witcher 3 financials, GoG, and share a few more details on their Cyberpunk game.
While they weren’t keen on sharing more news than they needed to, the folks over at CD Projekt had no problem building rapport around the IP’s potential. They have drawn parallels between their latest game and their critically-acclaimed Witcher franchise.
“Cyberpunk is our new Witcher 3, but even more ambitious. Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning,” said CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski. “We work [in a] new universe, futuristic universe. We believe it’s very appealing to players, not only RPG players—but this is [a] true RPG, like Witcher, like Witcher 3, for mature audiences. It’s handcrafted, detailed, of course, open-world, with open-ended gameplay.”
But the most interesting tidbit of the seminar came in a new slide. Cyberpunk 2077 is being simultaneously built for current and next-gen consoles. While we’ve suspected this for some time, the seminar provides the first instance in which the fact is explicitly mentioned. But this raises another question. Will Cyberpunk 2077 release in the same year as next-gen consoles? Analysts already predict that the PlayStation 5 is set for a 2020 reveal. The year 2020, as YouTuber YongYea noted, is also the original year in which the source material tabletop RPG is set: hence the original name, Cyberpunk 2020. YongYea is the same YouTuber who discovered the slide in question.
Since Cyberpunk’s reveal, we’ve heard many whispers coming out of the Polish studio. Most of them deal with the advanced concepts CDPR is bringing to the game. Among them are photorealistic rendering, realistic physics, and amazing animations. All things considered, do you think Cyberpunk 2077 will simultaneously launch for the PS4 and PS5 in 2020? Does that seem too far off? Feel free to comment your thoughts down below.
