Last week, Amazon briefly leaked a listing for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster, sparking speculation that Activision might be announcing the title soon. Now, rumours are suggesting that the game might be single player-only.
Both Charlie Intel and Eurogamer claim that sources have confirmed the game wonโt have a multiplayer mode.
Charlie Intel points to the Amazon Italy listing price of $25, which is much lower than Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remasteredโs $40 price tag. The outlet also suggests that Raven Software, the developer of the original game, wonโt be involved in the remaster. This could mean that Beenox, who aided in the development of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remasteredโs single player campaign, might be working on the Modern Warfare 2 Remaster.
Supporting this possibility is the fact that Beenox has been hiring int he last few months. And their job listings state that they are โcurrently dedicated to the development of the Call of Duty franchise.โ
Eurogamer is also backing the rumour of the upcoming remaster lacking multiplayer, and Activision reportedly declined to comment when they contacted them.
Of course, all of this is still just speculation. Modern Warfare 2 was a fan favourite for a generation of Call of Duty fans, and its multiplayer was hugely successful. Even though its campaign attracted controversy for its โNo Russianโ level, it still earned $1 billion in sales. It would be a strange move to leave out what is likely the main reason that many people would buy it.
And even if Modern Warfare 2 is being remastered, it doesnโt seem likely that it will release on April 30 like the listing says. Thereโs been less than a monthโs worth of marketing and hype. Just look at the Modern Warfare remake, which was announced six months prior to its release.
Looks like weโll just have to wait and see.
