Bungie Cracks Down on Cheaters & Match Quitters in Upcoming Destiny 2 Patch

Mid-Match Quitting Now Comes with Some Consequences

Bungie has recently announced some changes for Destiny 2 that’ll be added in an upcoming patch. One of those changes deals with players that quit ongoing matches.

Named the “Go Fast” or 1.1.4 update, the patch will add 30 minute restriction penalties for those that quit matches early. “Leaving a match early for any reason, from improper network settings to an idle time-out while getting the door for a food delivery, can result in a temporary restriction,” a news post about the update reads. “If you’re entering the Competitive playlist, make sure you have a solid connection and the proper time to complete your matches.”

Bungie has also announced that there will be changes to prevent cheating and punish cheaters as well. “The changes we are rolling out in 1.1.4 are going to increase the speed that we can detect and punish cheaters,” the news post continued. “Keeping the Destiny 2 environment protected from bad actors is a priority for us. We continue to work to make sure cheaters feel the full wrath of the Banhammer.”

Bungie said that they couldn’t go into detail about what these measures would specifically be since cheaters might find a way to avoid punishment if they “know how our detection works”.

There will also be additional security updates in the patch that is coming after this one as well.

The schedule for next week’s update is as follows: server maintenance will begin at 9 AM PDT, at 10 AM PDT, the update will available for download and install and by 11 AM PDT, the server maintenance will conclude.

The update is set to launch next Tuesday on March 27th. Destiny 2 is currently available for the PC, Xbox One and PS4. It is also possible to play Destiny 2 if you only own a Mac.
