The Upcoming Call of Duty Movie Might Have Found Its Director
Looks like that anticipated Call of Duty movie has possibly found its director! According to a report from Variety that was published on Tuesday, Stefano Sollima, the director of Sicario 2: Soldado, is in talks with Activision Blizzard Studios, the film division of the developer, to direct a film adaptation of Call of Duty.
It is currently unknown which era the film will take place in but, presumably, it will be set in the modern day. The film is currently without a distributor, says the report. Also according to the report: Activision Blizzard Studios is looking to create their own Call of Duty cinematic universe that is similar to the current Marvel and DC ones.
“We have plotted out many years,” said Activision Blizzard Studios co-president, Stacey Sher, to the Guardian last April. “We put together this group of writers to talk about where we were going. There’ll be a film that feels more like Black Ops, the story behind the story. The Modern Warfare series looks at what it’s like to fight a war with the eyes of the world on you. And then maybe something that is more of a hybrid, where you are looking at private, covert operations, while a public operation is going on.”
In that same Guardian report, Nick Van Dyk, Sher’s fellow co-president, also stated that the film franchise is “going to have the same sort of high-adrenaline, high-energy aesthetic as the game.” However, he stressed that this wasn’t going to be “a literal adaptation.”
“It’s a much more broad and inclusive, global in scope … a big, tentpole Marvel-esque movie,” he said. When asked about Sollima being the possible director, a rep for Activision Blizzard declined to comment, the Variety report stated.
