Overwatch’s Lunar New Year Event Returns in a Few Short Days
Despite a brand new surge of content into the world of Overwatch, Blizzard isn’t done yet, and we’re only one month into the year! In celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year, Blizzard has just announced that the popular Lunar New Year seasonal event will be making it’s way back to Overwatch, and it’s right around the corner.
Earlier today Blizzard confirmed that they would be bringing back the Lunar New Year event to Overwatch for the second year in a row. And the best news of all? It’s just a few short days away, releasing next Thursday, February 8th. Check out the official announcement on Twitter below.

Last year it was the Year of the Rooster, and this year, following the Chinese zodiac, it marks the Year of the Dog. While the tweet didn’t give many details as to what fans can expect from the upcoming event, much like last year’s it will likely have references to the animal of the year. An exciting game mode was released into the game last year, similar to capture the flag, but with a Rooster, so it will be interesting to see if this returns.
At the very least, it’s more than likely that this timed event will bring with it new seasonal Overwatch skins for some of the characters who have yet to receive one. And, of course, there should be some event goodies to be found within the loot crates as well. Whatever there is, Mei fans are sure to delight in the second event featuring her in the center of it all.
