Not Bad at All, Nintendo
This time last year, the PS4 and Xbox One sold a substantial amount of consoles, and it looks like the Nintendo Switch has outdone both of them.
Thanks to new chart data from Statista, we know the hybrid console is doing incredibly well. The chart arrives after Nintendo published their hardware sales numbers, which accounted for 2/3’s of all gaming hardware sold last month. But it looks like their success goes beyond September. According to the info, Nintendo Switch has outsold the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One numbers recorded last year. What’s more intriguing about it is that 2016 only saw two consoles in the market. The only month Switch did not win was August, the month Microsoft launched the Xbox One S. Overall, however, Nintendo has laid claim to the market.
The chart is plain to see below. It details the numbers for every individual month of the year, comparing the Switch to the competition.
“In September, the Nintendo Switch system was once again the top-selling current-generation console hardware, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States”, the press release reads. “This marks the third straight month that Nintendo Switch has been No. 1, and the fifth time overall in the seven months since its launch. Nintendo Switch has already surpassed 2 million units sold in the U.S. alone, and has yet to go through its first holiday shopping season.”
Obviously, we must keep in mind the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have been available for years. Still, both have seen sale boosts thanks to upgrades. Now, we’re left to wonder if Nintendo Switch can claim November with the impending Xbox One X release. We’ll just have to wait and see. Check back for the updates as they arrive. Until then and beyond,
Happy gaming.
