Yet Another Blow Against Metal Gear Survive
Konami has opened up the Metal Gear Survive website, which has stealthily dropped a key detail for the upcoming zombie survival action title. In fact, some fans may be even less inclined to try the title as the site’s Products page says that “an internet connection is required to play the game.”
Why would we need an online connection to play Metal Gear Survive in single-player? My guess is probably to shove microtransactions at the player ad nauseam. Besides that, the website added that the game’s online-multiplayer would require the standard memberships (PS Plus for PS4 and Xbox Live Gold for Xbox One). Konami is already facing a huge uphill slog as the company has built up a nasty reputation since the Kojima Exodus incident. With news coming out about this online-only feature, it won’t dissuade any doubters and may even discourage the game’s defenders too. With PUBG and Fortnite out this year, Metal Gear Survive is looking increasingly old. It may have had a chance closer to Metal Gear Solid V‘s release, but things are looking dim for the zombie shooter.
Metal Gear Survive will pop out from cover to launch on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in North America on February 20, 2018, Japan on February 21, 2018, and Europe on February 22, 2018.
