Hmm, One Platform Seems to Be Missing
The upcoming Nintendo Switch release of Mantis Burn Racing will allow for cross-network play between Switch, Xbox One, and Steam players, developer VooFoo Studios announced.
Did you notice a missing console? Good eye! Sony remains stingy on supporting cross-play with other networks, citing previously that they’re keen on providing keeping a friendly online environment. That’s definitely important, but if Nintendo is on board — who has been very vocal about having a non-toxic online community — then it really sounds like Sony is preventing its players due to other, unknown reasons.
Back to Mantis Burn Racing, the Switch port will also perform at a super-smooth 60 fps whether playing on the TV or in handheld mode.
“We’ve been spending a lot of time getting to grips with the capabilities of the Switch – we’ve learnt a lot by digging deeper into the hardware,” said Mark Williams, Technology Director at VooFoo Studios. “The Switch’s performance analysis tools have allowed us to understand where frame rate improvements could be made and we’re really pleased to have the game running at a consistently smooth 60fps – we were determined to make the Switch version the best it can be.”
There are some caveats, however. During split-screen races with 3 or 4 players, the frame rate has been confirmed to dip to 30 fps. If its only 2 player split-screen, it will vary between 30-60 fps. That seems completely fair, and still a monumental technical feat by the developer. As anyone who has played Mantis Burn Racing on other platforms will know, that smooth frame rate means a lot when your drifting around corners or blowing each other up in the Battle Cars DLC.
There is still no release date for the Switch version but it is “coming soon.” Leave us a comment below and tell us what you think about the game.
