Fire Emblem Echoes Likely the Series’ Last Mainline 3DS Entry

Fire Emblem Producer Says Upcoming Fire Emblem Warriors Still Coming to the 3DS, but Don’t Expect Any More Classic Tactical RPGs

Japanese Nintendo broke news of a recent interview with Fire Emblem producer, Hitoshi Yamagami, in the latest issue of Dengeki Nintendo (June 2017) that says that the upcoming Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will most likely be the last mainline 3DS entry. Huge news as the Fire Emblem series has been as important to the handheld as Bravely Default for giving the system strong JRPG.

Fire Emblem Echoes Season Pass
Fire Emblem Echoes, a remake of the NES entry in the series fire Emblem Gaiden, is coming out later this month on May 19, 2017. That said, Yamagami also added that the series could still mussou-type Fire Emblem Warriors is still on its way to the system. Thus, we may still see other non-mainline Fire Emblem games for the handheld which is getting old at six years.

Of course, this announcement means that while the tactical SRPG series has left 3DS, it means we’ll most likely see the series continue on the Switch. Although this bit of news does fly in the face of Nintendo insisting that the 3DS will continue to see support, I’m glad to see the series taken to new heights on the Switch.
