Xbox One Port of Phantom Dust Getting a Graphic Overhaul Afterall
Adam Isgreen, a creative director at Microsoft Studios responsible for publishing Phantom Dust, dropped a juicy remark on the game’s visuals in the Xbox One port. Microsoft first announced its plans to port Phantom Dust for the Xbox One during its press conference at E3 2016. The port was handled by Code Mystics and made to play on Windows 10 as part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program. However, there’s been a series of miscommunication on whether the port would be using the original game’s graphics and rendering since that E3 reveal. In early interviews about the port, Microsoft Studio’s GM, Shanno Loftis, told the press that the port would be utilizing the original 480p rendering of the game. Of course, this comment didn’t sit well fans who were expected some updated visuals.
Today, we got some clarification on the situation as Isgreen posted on a NeoGAF thread,
“There’s a very good reason Shannon said what she did about original rendering, but it’s no longer true. As I said, more info next week, but I’ll pop back on to clarify anything that was missed after the interview is out – I think I rambled a bit – easy to do with a game you love.”
Isgreen’s comment above helps bring some closure to the confusing debacle of how the port would look so close to its release date that Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has said would come before this year’s E3 conference. That timing seems crucial.
As for the all-new Phantom Dust that was announced at E3 2014? Â The closure of developer, Darkside Games, has seemingly sent the project into hiatus, but that game has not been officially canceled. Thus, we may get a double-hit this year with the port to drive up interest in the IP, and an announcement on the new Phantom Dust game later this year at E3.
