New Overwatch Map and Skins Themed after the Omnic Crisis
Last week, Blizzard did what they usually do and brilliantly teased upcoming Overwatch content. Aside from some reference to the storyline’s Omnic Crisis, there wasn’t much to go on. However, yesterday’s leak painted a better picture of what is to come. We found Trace, Mercy, Reinhardt, and Torbjorn would have their roles to play thanks to their revealed skins. But today, a full-fledged trailer has been leaked, albeit in Widomaker’s native language. Here’s an early look at the Overwatch update for tomorrow.
The new event, Overwatch Insurrection, as we suspected, comes with a completely new game mode. One might even be so bold as to call it Blizzard’s take on horde mode. As you’ll no doubt note, we have roster characters going up against machines. Hence, unless those Omnics are being controlled by players, the new game mode will have player teams defeating waves of NPCs.
Especially intriguing is the unveiling of more loot. Every fan will be scrambling for the new skins and sprays and skins. On top of what we saw in the previous leak, we now see new appearances for McCree, Genji, Widowmaker, and Torbjorn. Just like the blue and silver armor, the new “Blackwatch” skins come from the recently release comic about the Omnic Crisis. Therefore, we are technically receiving the characters as they were seven years ago in the Overwatch mythos.
This is the first time Blizzard releases a new update themed after a storyline arc. Perhaps this is update will serve as a harbinger of more such events to come.
