Grand Theft Auto V Red Dead Redemption Mod, Red Dead Redemption V, Is Officially Canceled Due to Take-Two Interactive Copyright Claims
Back in March, modders .White unleashed the news to the world that they were making a Grand Theft Auto V Red Dead Redemption mod, which would be bringing the big, beautiful map from Red Dead Redemption to Grand Theft Auto V. Endearingly, they named the mod “Red Dead Redemption V.” Sounds like a fitting name for such a great feat. Or, at least it would have been if the project had been able to be completed.
Take-Two Interactive contacted the group after the mod teaser trailer was released on Friday. When it was taken down, it was pretty safe to assume the tragic news that would be coming next. The lead programmer of .White had this to say via the GTA forums –
“I know this is hard pill to swallow, but as you may have noticed we did get contacted, and we sadly have to say we are stopping this project. So thanks guys, but it isn’t going to happen, sorry.”
Unfortunately, for all, .White has already spent over two years frivolously working on this mod. The original plan for Red Dead Redemption V was to bring the full map from Xbox 360’s Red Dead Redemption to shoot-em-up free-for-all open world of Grand Theft Auto V. They were also pushing for a summer release date for the mod’s beta.
You can check out a couple of screenshots from the canceled mod below –
It’s easy to get excited about something so big coming to GTA, but Take-Two Interactive most likely has other plans for the focus of their Red Dead series. Red Dead Redemption 2 will be making its way to gamers’ hands this year, and it’s very likely that they want all of the Red Dead attention focused on the upcoming release.
