White PS4 and NieR Selling Well in Japan
Several weeks ago, we told you about Sony’s new PS4 Slim, called the “Glacier White” edition. This is the first color variant for the PS4 Slim. Some of you might recall this is the same color variant that came out for the original PS4 as well. Last week, the new slimmed-down CUH-2000 PS4 debuted in Japan. Media Create has released its weekly top 50 and full weekly analysis, and it included some interesting little details about the final week of sales from the month of February.
In the rankings, it is revealed that about 17,000 of the new Glacier White PS4 consoles found Japanese homes (within a total of 37,008 PS4, plus 6,481 PS4 Pro), and we also learned that NieR: Automata is close to selling out its initial shipment.
NieR’s 198,542 copies sold were, in fact, 92.35% of the initial shipment, and we also learn that it had 105,000 pre-orders. Not only sales nearly tripled the first week units sold by the first NieR in the country (about 72,000), but they surpassed the local lifetime sales of 163,000. According to Media Create, this means that NieR: Automata has been embraced by a wide range of PS4 users, on top of traditional Japanese fans of the series.
The newer, slimmer PS4 looks fantastic. As a nice little bonus, the new PS4 comes bundled with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition which comes with Modern Warfare Remastered. The timing is perfect as the first batch of DLC arrived. Our reviewer Erin scored the DLC a 90/100 and said this:
“After spending quite a bit of time with the DLC, I would venture to say that it is the best we’ve seen in a long time! Infinity Ward and Activision definitely put their best foot forward, and it shows. If anyone had their doubts about the DLC, let me tell you there is nothing to be concerned about, as each of the multiplayer maps, as well as the newest zombies map, bring something new and exciting to the table. Hopefully this will be just the thing Infinite Warfare needs to reel some Call of Duty fans back in.”
While it may still be fashionable to crap all over the latest Call of Duty game, the fact remains it is the highest selling game of 2016 and the multiplayer component remains as great as ever.
The Glacier White PS4 will come with the newly revised DualShock 4 controller. If you’ve been in the market for a PS4, this is your chance to grab something a little bit different.
