New Character Revealed as Free-To-Play Weekend Begins Tomorrow
With the free-to-play weekend just one day away, a new character  for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege has been revealed! This is one of two characters that will be released with the Velvet Shell update. Both characters will be available when the new update comes out next week, on February 7th!
The newest character for Rainbow Six Siege is a female operator named Mira. She is capable of blowing a rectangular hole through reinforced walls, keeping the walls relatively intact. The Ubisoft blog post seems to tease that there is something else that Mira does, however it did not give any further details. Some players have speculated that she may create a hole covered by glass. We’ll have to wait and see!
The Velvet Shell update also includes another new character, Jackal, who has the ability to see enemy footprints on the ground. Both Mira, and Jackal come from Spain’s Grupo Especial de Operaciones (GEO). As part of the newest update, there is also a new map, Coastline, that is set in a resort in Spain.
This weekend, along with the free-to-play event, there is an international tournament taking place, in which Ubisoft plans to showcase the Velvet Shell update. Just two days later, on February 7th, the update will be available to every Xbox One, PS4 and PC player with the Year 2 season pass. Everyone else will be able to purchase the Velvet Shell update the following week. While the map will be free for everyone, the characters will have to be purchased by either in-game currency, or real money for those without the Year 2 season pass.
