Vicarious Visions Joins Destiny. Is Skylanders Done for?

Game Developer Vicarious Visions Joins Destiny after Supposed Skylanders Cancellation

Following rumors of Skylanders’ cancellation, video game developer Vicarious Visions has hopped onto the Destiny Wagon. Bungie recently revealed the news via tweet welcoming Vicarious Visions into the fold.

In an added twist, it seems Vicarious Visions’ latest title, Skylanders Imaginators has seen a decline in sales following Skylanders: SuperChargers release in 2015. This little tidbit has led many to believe that Skylanders, as a series, is in trouble. Keep in mind Activision has not relased any official information yet, so the rumors of a cancelled Skylanders franchise is nothing more than a rumor and should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Now Vicarious Visions joins Destiny in what is sure to be an interesting and amicable partnership. But in Bungie’s welcoming tweet, viewers should probably pay attention to Vicarious’s wording; They will effectively help “Expand” the Destiny Universe.

As reported in one of our more recent news pieces, Cameron Lee recently departed Bioware to work with Bungie, albeit, in a “new” project as he himself stated. But what’s clear from piling information is that Bungie’s consistently adding talent to its IPs. The question now is, where else can Destiny “expand? With Destiny 2’s impending release in 2017, it seems Vicarious Visions will either help deliver Destiny’s final add-ons, or provide added assistance for Destiny 2–as has been Cameron Lee’s speculated role.

Vicarious Visions Joins Destiny

Or, perhaps, Vicarious Visions will develop completely new content utilizing the unexplored lore of the Destiny universe. Because, let’s face it, the current game has barely scratched the surface of its own story. Destiny’s success since its 2014 release, raking in millions of dollars in copies and DLC content, leaves Activision room to exploit its garnered popularity.

As of right now, however, Vicarious Visions is working on the Crash Bandicoot remaster, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Crash Bandicoot represents a much anticipated release and, along with this latest news, suggests Vicarious Visions may work on more highly-anticipated releases in the future.
