Sony Bigwigs Say 2017 Will See New and Ambitious Titles for PlayStation Consoles
Recently, producers and developers at Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio participated in a yearly tradition of closing the book on 2016, by making predictions about what is to come for the company in the next calendar year.  From tidbits of information gleaned from various interviews on 4gamer.net, it looks like 2017 has the potential to be a pretty exciting year for Sony, especially on the game development side.
Two Bloodborne producers hinted that they have both been working behind the scenes for some time now on what they call “ambitious titles.” While we have no reason to believe at present that we will be seeing another installment in the Bloodborne series in 2017, producer, Teruyuki Toriyama mentioned that his studio is working on current mystery titles as well as developing concepts for new games.  Another Bloodborne producer, Masaaki Yamagiwa, weighed in, saying that an unnamed project that he has been working on since Bloodborne‘s release will most likely come to the public eye in 2017.
The Dark Souls series has supposedly been completed with the release of Dark Souls 3, but Bloodborne has made no such claims. There is still so much player support for these, “Soulsborne” games that it isn’t too far fetched to think 2017 may see another installment in the genre.  However, there is no official word from Sony’s Japan Studio regarding the production of such a game… everything seems to be shrouded in a certain amount of mystery when it comes to the game plan for 2017.  Producers are definitely optimistic about the next calendar year for gaming, asking fans to continue supporting the SIE Japan Studio and remain confident that big things are on the horizon.
Even SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida shared his perspective during the year end roundup, saying some serious software is coming to Sony PlayStation in the coming year. He calls 2016 the year of PlayStation hardware, with the release of the slimmed down version of the PS4, the PS4 Pro, as well as the PlayStation VR, and looks forward to 2017 being the year of some “amazing software.” We know fans are hungry to see games that will make use of 4k technology as well as games that really test the boundaries of the virtual reality platform.  Even though Sony is being a bit tight-lipped about current and future projects, gamers should be able to take comfort in knowing that the producers and president over at Sony are as excited as we are about the future possibilities of gaming!
