After 8 Years of Development, Pokemon Prism Cancelled by Nintendo

Fan Made Rom Hack Pokemon Prism Cancelled Four Days Before Release by Nintendo

Nintendo has an extensive history of cracking down on fan made games based on their intellectual property, and Pokemon Prism is the latest victim. After eight years of development and four days before its release, Pokemon Prism, a fan made ROM Hack based on Pokemon Crystal on the Gameboy Color has been cancelled.

Its creator, Adam Vierra, apparently received a cease and desist letter from Nintendo regarding the project due to an “unauthorised use of Nintendo’s intellectual property rights”. On Facebook, Vierra posted, “Thank you all for your support throughout the years. I’m sorry it ended like this. I will make a longer statement regarding this soon, but expect this page to be shutdown in a few days.”

Vierra has subsequently altered his website to redirect to a PDF of Nintendo’s letter and the Pokemon Prism trailer which had attracted millions of hits is now set to private.

Pokemon Prism was meant to be released for free on Christmas Day and feature an entirely new region, story, and Pokemon types.
