Capcom Looking to Support Switch in a Big Way
Last week, we shared with you how Capcom President and CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto recently spoke about the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch during his presentation and subsequent Q&A. This occurred during Capcom’s latest financial briefing for the first half of the year ending on September 30th. During the briefing, Tsujimoto indicated that the PS4 is showing stronger performance than PS3, with over 40 million already sold. He expects it to break 100 million by 2020. Today, the English Translation of Capcom’s newest earnings Q&A was published. In it, Capcom reveals that it is currently considering how it could brings its PS4 and Xbox One games to the Switch.
Capcom is one of many publishers supporting the Switch. Other companies include Bethesda, EA, Square Enix, and many more. However, beyond its pledged support, we currently don’t know what Capcom plans to do with the upcoming console. When asked during the Q&A what its stance was for developing games for the new Nintendo hardware, Capcom said the following:
“It is excellent to have the market invigorated with new hardware launches. As a software publisher, we endeavor to develop games that offer enjoyment best suited to each piece of hardware’s features and target users. Following first party, in order to introduce our own content we are currently moving forward with internal planning and analysis as a partner company.”
Then, when asked about if its possible to develop multiplatform titles for the Switch, Capcom added the following:
“We are currently carrying out research with regards to multiplatform implementation of software for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on to the Nintendo Switch and thus are unable to comment at this moment. However, we do feel that there are differences in the desired direction and the play-style of the Nintendo Switch and those of the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. At Capcom, we determine which platform to release a title for after considering the features of both our software and the hardware in question, believing we must bring the enjoyment of our games to their maximum potential.”
Because research is ongoing, Capcom could not provide any specifics. Switch is set to release sometime in March 2017. Its price and exact release date have not been announced.
