The worst kept secret this summer appears to be coming to an end this week. Today, we learned Sony will be announcing a new PS4 console later this week. This according to PlayStation Korea. The report suggests only one console will be announced but we expect to see two (the PS4 Slim and PS4 Neo) revealed.

At the New York event, which kicks off on Wednesday at 8pm BST, Sony is expected to make some big announcements. It has been widely believed Sony will announce two new consoles: the PS4 Slim and PS4 Neo. It should be interesting to see if the new consoles will match the rumoured specs and price point.

Back in June, a report was floating around that the Neo will have a smart design which allows developers to scale their games accordingly on the PS4 and Neo. The developers apparently “love” the boost in the GPU and just like the Xbox One Scorpio it will be up to them whether they want to scale up already released games on the Neo. It was also said that the Neo will also have a 4K Blu Ray drive which could mean games will at least be upscaled to 4K resolution.

PS4 Slim, meanwhile, is a slimmed down version of the current PlayStation 4 console. According to reports the console runs “unbelievably” cool and quiet. Triggers and buttons on the new DualShock 4 feel “more solid,” with better materials. Buttons and sticks are exactly the same height as the original DualShock 4 controller. The additional light bar doesn’t actually have a light of its own. It’s just a see-through strip on the touchpad that lets the original light shine through. The battery is the same 1,000 mHa one used in the current DualShock 4.
