The Horde Has Spoken, Warcraft Is Box-Office Worthy Despite The Nay-Sayers

After releasing internationally, Warcraft debut in the US over the weekend and the box office numbers are rolling in, the movie adaptation of the classic video game franchise opened in the number two spot on Friday, raking in $10.7 million that day. While the film had a budget of $160 million, the projected numbers in the US are terrible but the international markets, more specifically China, has grossed the film $145 million since opening weekend making it pace ahead of Starwars: The Force Awakens.

The reason why US markets have tanked is likely due to the subscription rate of World of Warcraft players diminishing since Legendary acquired the rights 10 years ago when it was more popular. Blizzard counted a 9 year low for subscribers to the phenomenon MMO title.

Director Duncan Jones hopped on Twitter to say a few things about the success of the movie:

Blizzard founder Mike Morhaime responded VIA Twitter saying “Couldn’t have said it better myself”
