Prepare for the arrival of Spider-Man Homecoming, next summer
Spider-Man Homecoming signaled its desire to return to the roots of the franchise, as actor Tom Holland introduced himself like a stranger meeting his fans for the first time. “I’m Tom Holland and I’m your new Spider-Man.”
And now it looks like we have the official name to the new Spider-Man movie, according to Variety. Sony Pictures announced at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that the new movie would be titled Spider-Man: Homecoming and will hit theaters next summer.
English actor Tom Holland was flown in for the reveal to greet the press. He promised that the new movie will focus on Peter Parker discovering his alter ego and trying to manage the daily struggles of being a student alongside his heroic duties. Sony Pictures Chief Tom Rothman described it as “saving the world and completing your algebra homework at the same time.” We’re pretty sure Peter Parker is a bit higher level in his studies than ‘algebra’, but the premise seems tumultuous enough to make for a compelling story (we hope).
Spider-Man: Homecoming is a joint effort between Sony Pictures and Disney’s Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige will take the helm as Producer. Tom Holland will make his debut as Spider-Man in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War but is also slated to appear in future Avenger movies.
Will the inclusion of Marvel Studios help to smooth over some of Spider-Man’s rocky history? Only time will tell, but Marvel has an incredible film track record lately, and frankly, nothing could be worse than the cringe inducing Spider-Man 3. What’s your take, Spider-fans? Can Tom Holland do what Tobey Maguire and that other guy failed to? Will Spider-Man Homecoming be the triumphant success such a fantastic hero deserves? Let us know in the comments!
Spider-Man Homecoming swings into theaters July 7, 2017.
