Report: Nathan Fillion (Maybe) in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

A photo gallery has apparently popped up on Imgur that reportedly depicts a movie theater altered to serve as a set for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The theater’s marquee reads “Simon Williams Film Festival,” and shows a bunch of posters featuring actor Nathan Fillion as “Simon Williams” – who, in comic books, is famous as the superhero and long-time Avenger Wonder Man – in a series of films.

Could it be that Fillion is in the movie playing Wonder Man? It wouldn’t be the first time he has been associated with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies – he provided the voice for a blue alien character who confronts Rocket and Groot while they are in prison.

All of the posters are satirical references to well-known real films. For example, we see a movie called Tony Stark (as in the biopic Steve Jobs); there is The Toxic Janitor (a reference to The Toxic Avenger); there’s Oh, Rebecca (which apparently lampoons There’s Something About Mary); and Arkon, a nod to Conan the Barbarian featuring Marvel’s own Arkon, who recently was in the Secret Wars tie-in Weirdworld. Clearly, the posters indicate that the trademark Guardians of the Galaxy humour is going to be as strong as ever in the sequel.

The Newsarama website also points out that the time-frame of the posters seems to be in the present day on Earth, meaning that the new movie would likely have scenes from before Peter Quill was taken by Yondu and the Ravagers in 1988. That might mean some sort exploration of Peter’s early life and even his family and parental roots.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently filming at Pinewood Studios in Georgia, and is due to release May 5th, 2017. We will definitely be covering every aspect of the film, so stay tuned here for more breaking news!
